This week, the 63rd running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona roars back into Daytona Beach starting with pre-race events Thursday, January 23rd and culminating Sunday, January 26th. This annual endurance sports car race, sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association, (IMSA) held at the Daytona International Speedway, races counterclockwise on the 3.56 mile Sports Car Course layout combining most of the tri-oval course plus a tight 6-turn section on the infield, forming the 12-turn "International Horseshoe."

The 24-hour race format at Daytona was first held in 1966, however its roots date back to the 1962 3-hour sports car race known as the Daytona Continental, which accumulated points towards the newly formed race series, the International Championship for GT Manufacturers, sanctioned by the 3-year-old French born International Automobile Federation (FIA). Two years later in 1964, the race in Daytona was changed to a distance of 1240 miles, which essentially took drivers about 12-hours to complete. In 1966 the Daytona race was returned to a timed event, and expanded to the same 24-hour format raced at the 24-Hours of Le Mans, with the winner being the driver and team which covered the greatest distance at the end of the time limit. The 24 Hours of Le Mans, the oldest active endurance racing event in history, is run in its current layout on a 8.467 mile course combining circuits within a permanent track and on city streets in the French city of Le Mans in the Loire Region of northwestern France, as opposed to the Rolex 24 at Daytona with the entire race run on a closed circuit.

Rolex 24 at Daytona tickets for the public are available for 2-day and 4-day packages which include access to the infield, garage area & general admission seating, including the Fanzone. For little race fans, kids 12 & under are admitted free with a paid adult ticket.

Thursday and Friday are primarily practice and qualifying runs, however Friday afternoon, from 1:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. is the 4-hour BMW M Endurance Challenge

The 63rd Rolex 24 at Daytona race for the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship begins Saturday, January 25th, at 1:40 p.m. and ends 24-hours later on Sunday, January at 1:40 p.m.

There are numerous add-ons and upgrades available as well. "Taste of the 24" which benefits the NASCAR Foundation's effort to provide children in need access to medical treatment and care, showcases culinary delights from some of the area's best restaurants, live entertainment and exhilarating racing from the Midway Suites during the Rolex 24 at Daytona. There is also the Premier VIP Experience, and the Trackside Tour VIP Experience available as add-ons to a General Admission ticket for the ultimate racing experiences

If you are craving some world class automobile racing to start the year, don't miss the Rolex 24 at Daytona, because be forewarned, the Daytona 500 in February is already sold out.
